Student Machine Shop room summary

The Student Machine Shop (ENC 09) is home to a variety of manufacturing tools. Here you will find conventional machining tools, such as:

  • basic hand tools
  • mills
  • lathes
  • drill presses
  • grinders
  • bandsaws

Room equipment details

Green equipment

Equipment in this category does not require any additional training prior to use. Once you have access to the room, you may use any equipment labelled with a green equipment sticker.

  • Light hand tools, including hammers, screwdrivers, clamps, wire cutters, vise grips, vises, pliers, tin snips, aviation snips, box cutters, saws, wrenches, sockets, files, chisels, planes, etc.
  • Hand drill
  • Small power tools, including reciprocating saw, jig saw, nibbler, electric shear

Yellow equipment

Equipment in this category requires completion of additional training prior to use. Once you have completed the training, you may use the equipment without supervision.

  • Band saws
  • Grinder
  • Drill press

Blue equipment

Equipment in this category requires completion of additional training (see links below) prior to use. Once you have completed the training, you may use the equipment with supervision.

  • Milling machine
  • Lathe
  • Waterjet

Red equipment

Equipment in this category is operated by SSE Technical Services staff only. To request the equipment service, you must first complete additional training.

There is no red equipment in the Student Machine Shop.
