Electrical Makerspace Access Training

Please consult the supervising electrical tech if you have uncertainties regarding the operation of any equipment.

Soldering stations

  • Do not touch the tip!
  • Turn the fume extractor on

Handheld multimeter

  • Always be aware of short circuits
  • Ensure you are using the right settings when measuring current (200mA MAX or 10A MAX)

Oscilloscope

  • Make sure to use the power cord provided
  • Always use the oscilloscope probes provided

Power supply

  • Double check your circuit before supplying power
  • Do not touch terminals while power is being supplied
  • Always turn off power supply before making changes to your circuit
  • Always ensure your positive and negative terminals are not in contact to avoid short circuits

Function generator

  • Be aware of damaged output cable when operating this device
  • Ensure that connectors are the correct sizes
  • Never use brute force when connecting your coax cable

Digital multimeter

  • Make sure to connect your measuring cables to the appropriate rating
  • The ratings allowed by the multimeter are:
    • 200V
    • 1000V
    • 500Vpk Max
    • 3A RMS
  • If the previous precautions have been met and the multimeter is giving inaccurate readings, contact the electrical tech to check the fuse on the back of the device
