General

How do I get access to these facilities?

To use any of the Maker Multiplex or Zetta (M2Z) facilities, you must first complete the M2Z General Access Training.

What time are you open?

Hours for the M2Z facilities vary. Please visit our Facilities page for the most up to date information:

How can I get after-hours access?

We do not currently offer after-hours access; however, we do have extended hours for some facilities on some days. Please contact us directly if you have an urgent request.

Is there a cost to using M2Z facilities?

In general, there are no costs provided you are an active member of the University of Calgary (i.e. student, staff or faculty).

I used to be an M2 member before March 2020. Do I still need to do the General Access Training?

Yes. Unfortunately, there is no rollover from previous training that you may have completed in the past. However, you should be able to complete the necessary access training relatively quickly if you remember what you have done in the past.

Is this space for me?

If you are an active University of Calgary student, staff member or faculty member, you are eligible to become an M2Z member.

Why can't I book a spot to work / a spot in a workshop?

You need to ensure you've completed all prerequisites before booking (this includes being an M2Z member, having a valid waiver, and any space-specific training that may be required). After you have finished all prerequisites, it can take up to 1 day for the system to update your booking privileges.

Equipment usage

I already know how to use [insert piece of equipment here]. Do I still need to take access training?

Yes, for any of our equipment that requires training before usage, you must first pass our associated access training. If you are already familiar with how to use the equipment, passing the training should not be too difficult. Visit our access trainings page for a list of all available equipment access trainings.

What do you mean by "green equipment"?

All of our equipment is categorized by colour: green, yellow, blue, or red.

Green equipment identifies tools that can be used without additional equipment access training. Only the associated room access training is necessary.

Yellow equipment identifies tools that require completion of equipment access training. After successfully passing all requirements, you can use yellow equipment without supervision.

Blue equipment identifies tools that require completion of equipment access training as well. However, after successfully passing all requirements, you can only use blue equipment under supervision.

Red equipment identifies tools that are only operated by Schulich School of Engineering technical support staff.
