ROS (Robotic Operating System) Basics

What is ROS?

ROS stands for Robotic Operating System. ROS is an open-source set of tools, libraries and packages that act as the framework of a robotic system. Although its name suggests that ROS is an operating system, by definition it is not, however, ROS provides essential tools and services an operating system would provide. ROS is recommended for use on Unix-based (Linux) platforms such as Ubuntu.
