Music and Sound Access Training

Space usage

Note: Only one person/group per room at a time.

Booking

There are two main types of workspaces that you can book in the Music & Sound Makerspaces.

  • *Workspace in Music and Sound Makerspace denotes the primary booking: if you are working by yourself, this is the spot you should book. If you are working in a group, at least one person must book this spot.
  • Secondary spot in [ENG 23/ENG 25] denotes a secondary (additional) spot: if you are working in a group, all additional group members can book a secondary spot. Each room can accommodate up to 4 people (one booked in the primary workspace and the other 3 booked in secondary spots).

To book, please use the following link:

Checking in

When you arrive, you must first check in at HQ (ENA 03).

  1. Check in using the check-in station at the door. If you have an existing booking, you can simply tap your card. If you are dropping in, you can see if the space is available using the check-in station.
    • IMPORTANT: All group members must be M2Z members and must check in.
  2. Ask the staff in HQ for a loaner card. You will trade your personal UCalgary unicard for a loaner. The loaner card will give you access to the Music & Sound Makerspaces.

Finishing up

When you leave, please refer to the user reference guide booklet within each room for picture reference on how the room should be kept. As a summary:

  1. Ensure all equipment is off (if electric) and returned to its place.
  2. Log off the computer and turn off the mixer.
  3. Clean the whiteboard.
  4. Return all instruments, peripherals, etc. to their places.
  5. Check the cleaning task list on the door. Write your time slot and initial once everything is in order.
  6. Bring the loaner card back to HQ and staff will return your personal unicard.

Disciplinary measures

Please note that rooms will be checked at the end of each day. If there is evidence of misuse (e.g. equipment not where it belongs, wiring changed, etc.), all users of the room that day are at risk of being banned. If you are banned, you cannot use any M2Z spaces for the duration of your ban. First-time offenders will experience a one-week ban; repeat offenders may experience a longer ban at the discretion of the team.

If you arrive for your booking and the room is already in a poor state, please send an email to sse.m2z@ucalgary.ca right away including your name(s), ID(s), start time of your booking, and what you observed.

Equipment usage

Do not modify wiring unless you have been trained to do so.

Please ensure that you use all equipment safely and return equipment to the space where it belongs.

Do not remove any equipment from the Music & Sound Makerspaces (ENG 23 and ENG 25).

Keep all volumes to a reasonable level.
